Meeting Minutes for 10/22/08

Attendance

Tonight was one of the better attended meetings in club history, and I think some of us were a little taken aback at the size of our group. Ben, Dave, Eric, Joe, Kim, Moneta, Nileena, Peter, Stephanie - and a big welcome to Erin for attending her first Rotaract meeting!

Columbia Patuxent Rotary Luau

Five of us helped the Rotarians in their fundraising adventure. It was an exciting night filled with Hawaiian dancers, raffle tickets, and tons of fun auction items. I think we helped them raise quite a bit of money from the crowd too. Look for a picture of us on our website shortly.

Upcoming Ravens Games - 10/26, 11/23, 12/7, 12/14, 12/28

Anybody who is interested in volunteering, please contact me. The club earns $65 plus tips for everybody who shows up to be a runner (brings food to peoples seats - very easy!!). Next game is on SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY ..... October 26 at 1 pm.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer - Cancelled

But you can still make a donation on this website if you're interested.

Halloween Party At Eric's Parents House! - 10/31

On Friday the 31st of October, Howard County Rotary will be spending a ghastly evening watching SCARY movies On Eric's Parent's big screen (they do have one, right?). Food will be home made pizza, and drinks and deserts are being provided. Eric will be emailing the details out later.

Districtwide Rotaract Happy Hour - 11/11

The district has joined together to decide to have a happy hour at Dave & Busters at Arundel Mills Mall on Tuesday, November 11 at 7 PM. THERE WILL BE NO REGULAR MEETING ON 11/12.

Maryland Living Classrooms Project - 11/22

Peter came in today to talk to us about the things that Living Classrooms is doing in Baltimore and how we can help. We agreed to participate in the project the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) 2/13 - 2/16/09

Rotary District 7620 is proud (or at least should be) to bring you RYLA 2009. Registration for Rotaractors is now open. If you are interested in learning more about it, ask those of us who've gone, or just go to this website and read about it there.

Meeting Minutes for 10/08/08

Attendance

Joe, Dave, Stephanie, Moneta, Kimberly, Allison, Jeff (I think... Sorry), Ben

Membership

Yes, three potential new members showed up at the last meeting. Very exciting!

Past Ravens Games

At our last Raven's game, Eric showed up to the party and got his 3 minute alcohol certification. However, he made history by buying three beers without even getting a buzz. Bummer. Rotaract benefited greatly by this triple threat of alcohol distribution.

Upcoming Ravens Game

Anybody who is interested in volunteering, please contact me. The club earns $65 plus tips for everybody who shows up to be a runner (brings food to peoples seats - very easy!!). Next game is on SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY ..... October 26 at 1 pm.

Adopt-A-Highway

Dave, Eric, and myself cleaned the Westbound Stretch of 175 in Columbia.

Walk Now for Autism

We walked around a very very short track. Actually it was a great day for the event, and over 2,000 people showed up. Walk Now raised over $237,000, but they are short of their goal of $300,000. It is not too late to donate, please do by going to our team page. Even if you can donate $10 that would be really appreciated. Our team so far has raised $185.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer - REGISTER NOW!

This event is making its return this year, thanks to Moneta who started our team page. It is located here. There is no minimum donation to join. Making Strides is "a celebration of survivorship, an occasion to express hope, and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love." Come on out and join us! - I previously said no registration is required, but it would be helpful to get a headcount if you are interested. I've registered, so how about you?

Meeting Minutes for 9/10/08 & 9/24/08

Membership/Potluck
As previously mentioned, Howard County Rotaract decided to hold a potluck to welcome and introduce new people to our club. Thanks to Courtney, Leila, Raj and her husband for coming. Its was a great time.
Rotaract Plaque for Nora Cafe
The plaque is now on display at Nora Cafe.
Past Ravens Games
The past two Ravens Games were a good time. The opener made our club lots of money, and Dave showed up for the second game, earning his Alcohol Awareness training in record time, and making a great contribution to our general fund.
Upcoming Ravens Game
Anybody who is interested in volunteering, please contact me. The club earns $65 plus tips for everybody who shows up to be a runner (brings food to peoples seats - very easy).
Adopt-A-Highway
Dave, Stephanie, Eric, and myself cleaned the Eastbound Stretch of 175 in Columbia. The next cleanup is scheduled for October 12 at 10 am.
Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen
On September 6, eight people showed up on behalf of Rotaract of Howard County to volunteer in the soup kitchen, despite the best efforts of Tropical Storm Hannah. We were all split up amongst the four table sections, so collectively we likely served close to 600 people! This was a great community service activity that we will likely participate in once again.
Walk Now for Autism
We will be walking at the Baltimore Walk Now for Autism on October 4. It is not too late to join or to donate, so please do by going to our team page at http://www.walknowforautism.org/baltimore/team/hcrotaract . Even if you can donate $10 that would be really appreciated.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
This event is making its return this year, thanks to Moneta who started our team page. No Registration is required, and there is no minimum donation to join. Making Strides is "a celebration of survivorship, an occasion to express hope, and a shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love." Come on out and join us!

Minutes for 9/03/2008:

Attendance
    Eric, Dave, Nileena, Stephanie, Ben
Membership
The club on Wednesday decided to organize a pot luck dinner to go along with our newest facebook membership drive. Nileena will be hosting at her apartment - the date will be 9/17/2008 at 7 pm. That said, we will not have a weekly meeting at Nora Cafe on this date. As of 9/7/2008 our new facebook ad is live, inviting people to visit http://hcrotaract.com/Facebook/facebook.html to learn more about Rotaract and invite them to the potluck dinner. We should be sending out a flier soon advertising this event to all Rotary Clubs in Howard County.
Past Ravens Game
It was disorganized, it was no fun, and Ben made little money.
Upcoming Ravens Game 9/21/2008
We desperately need volunteers. The next game is September 21 at 4:15 pm.

Minutes for 8/27/2008:

Attendance
David, Stephanie, Ben, and a hearty welcome to our newest member Courtney.
Rotaract Plaque for Nora Cafe
At a recent meeting we gained approval from ownership to post a plaque near the front door that reads "Rotaract Meets Here" with our meeting time, and website located below that. What was subject to debate however was our meeting time - whether or not we would continue meeting weekly, or meeting every first and third Wednesday instead. I think we will have a final vote on this soon, and then we will have a plaque.
Past Event - Pool Party
We had a party on that recent Saturday afternoon. There was plenty of sunshine - in our hearts, and it was plenty warm - so long as you weren't in the pool. But Eric, Dave, Ben, and Stephanie had a great time.
Ravens Games Fundraiser
Its not quite the same as last year, but its still an easy payday for our club. Remember, you get $65 for showing up!
Adopt A Highway
We are having two highway cleanups this late summer/fall. The first will be Sept 13, the second on Oct 12. We will meet in the parking lot behind Fuddruckers at 10 am for both.
Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen
We are helping out on Saturday September 6 from 9 to 1 pm. If you intend to come, please email me at ben2umbc@gmail.com if you are not at the meeting this week.
Ft McHenry Cleanup
The second, and second to last cleanup will be held on September 27.
Walk Now for Autism Meeting Minutes now Online
They are located here, and are accessible at anytime from the link on the left side of the page at www.hcrotaract.com. Or perhaps you noticed that already.
